| About the Artist Marna Daugherty Raised in rural New England, Marna spent most of her time with her horse, riding through the shady woods in summertime & crunchy white snow in winter. "I loved riding in the fall through all the bright colored leaves along side a playful river & in spring where the rainbow trout darted behind rocks when they heard hoof beats coming too close." Moving to the western states replaced the English Saddles for Western and brought about the desire to draw the things she had experienced first hand in Oregon, Colorado, Montana, California & Arizona. "I loved the cowboys & indians, cattle drives, rodeos & wild horses!" Marna's love of horses inspires her to draw them on paper using pencil. Her knowledge of their anatomy, movement and behavior bring her subjects to life. The high detail and her constant striving for perfection makes each drawing unique. Marna is amazingly self taught. She says: "It is a gift from God." Marna still rides and shows in Western Events and is very active in the movement to save the wild horses from extinction. She says this about her favorite subject: "We owe the horse our kindness, respect and protection. He has been a humble servant & courageous friend to man for centuries. May my art be a symbol of his beauty & spirit and live inside us all." |
